Slowdown is a truly unique dancing event. You can look forward to enjoying: two jam-packed days of workshops, offering fundamentals through to advanced concepts in all styles of slow dance; three nights of cracking live music from The Battered Savoys, Canberra trumpet sensation Dan McLean, nationally renown vocalists Lani Rose and Yvette Johanssen, blues duo Mitch Preston and Leo Joseph, and some of Australia’s finest DJs; 2 kicking after parties on beautiful wooden floors to keep you dancing smoothly between the main balls and into the night; a wonderful wind down evening in a beautiful cocktail bar featuring some of the teachers and DJs favourite songs, and just an overall great vibe from the invited artists to the participating dancers – it really is an unforgettable weekend!

Friday Night 12 October 2018
Taster Class and Welcome Dance
VENUE: ANU University House
, 1 Balmain Cres, Acton ACT
TIME: 7.15pm Taster Class with Kara and Kenneth. Live music 8-11pm with The Battered Savoys, featuring vocalist Lani Rose and arranged by Dan McLean.
ENTRY: Included in Gold and Social pass or $40 at door
We kick off with a (optional) 45 min taster class, then get you social dancing to arguably Canberra’s best swing band. Drinks available at a cash bar.

Friday After Party
VENUE: Parlour Bar, 16 Kendall Ln, Acton ACT
TIME: 11.00pm til late
ENTRY: Included in Gold and Social pass or $20 at door
We will keep you dancing through to the early hours of Saturday morning! Delicious cocktails and drinks available. No BYO.

Saturday and Sunday workshops: 13 and 14 October 2018
VENUE: Merici College, Wise Street, Braddon

The workshop schedule is now available – there are workshops for all abilities and passions on offer. Kicking off at 11.00am on Saturday and 11.45am on Sunday (to allow you to dance right til the wee hours of Sunday morning if you choose), some of Australia’s leading authorities around your most loved styles will be bringing their best to share with you at Slowdown, in hours of incredible workshops.

TIME: 8.15pm taster class with Marcel and Therese. Live music from 9pm with Dan McLean’s Hot Six, featuring vocalist Yvette Johannsen.
ENTRY: Included in Gold and Social pass or $48 at door
We get you moving with another (optional) Party Blues taster class, and then, more scrumptious social dancing and live music featuring starting at 9pm.

Continue social dancing into Sunday morning. Enjoy two rooms of dancing with a showcase of DJs as they each throw down their favourite tunes, running till the wee hours of the morning (which is why workshops start a little later Sunday!).

As with Saturday, there are workshops at Merici College for all abilities and passions on offer. Kicking off at 11.45am, some of Australia’s leading authorities around your most loved styles will be bringing their best to share with you at Slowdown, in over 5 hours of incredible workshops each day.

VENUE: The Loft at Duxton, corner Macpherson St & Sargood St, O’Connor ACT 2602
TIME: 7.30pm-11.30pm
ENTRY: Included in Gold and Social pass or $20 at door
Dancing and wind down from 7.30pm onward, featuring Blues duo Mitch Preston and Leo Joseph, plus a showcase of DJs.

There will be workshop classes across all of your favourite dance styles, including slow balboa, swing, solo and blues. You will absolutely be inspired and challenged by the stellar teaching team and fantastic music by some of Australia’s most popular artists and DJs.

Tickets are available at the door to each night time event, for those who don’t have full Weekend passes and only have time to join us for the socials.
