DJ Max Pogonowski playing at Slowdown Weekend 2018

Max Pogonowski has been on the interstate DJ circuit for a few years, playing for Swing and Blues dancers alike at events such as Southern Blues, Hullabaloo, SLX, MLX, and Canberrang. Slowdown holds a very special place in his heart because it is one of the only places he can play music from his ever-growing collection of slow jazz.

He loves strong female vocals from the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Dianne Reeves, Dinah Washington and Dee Dee Bridgewater, but you’ll also hear soulful ballads, funky blues, Chicago blues verging on rock, and anything with a killer piano solo.

Along with the favourites, every set Max plays has a surprise track in it that he’s never played at an exchange before, so there’s always something new to look forward to.

DJ Vanessa Nimmo playing at Slowdown Weekend 2018

Vanessa Nimmo started dancing to help out a friend who didn’t want to try it out alone, and realised years later she should really have thanked that friend for introducing her to something so awesome. When not dancing, she writes and teaches music, and DJs so that she has to spend loads of time listening to jazz and blues music. Vanessa’s DJ highlight to date was having over a thousand people grooving to solid big band swing at Melbourne’s White Night, and her absolute favourite thing about DJing is seeing what everyone does with her music on the dance floor.

DJ Julia Wharington playing at Slowdown Weekend 2018

It’s all about the music, right? No music, no feels, no fun. When Julia Wharington started dancing she discovered quickly that the DJ had such a huge influence on her enjoyment of the night. This is what drew her to DJing. She wanted to see if she could create an awesome time for the dancers in the room. That and the fact that she frequently gets carried away searching for new songs and the new songs just need trying out on a dancing audience! When it comes to DJing for slow dancing, Julia always aims to mix it up and play a variety of styles and tempos, from smooth to funky, traditional to modern, all depending on the time of night, mood in the room, and reaction of the crowd. She’s super excited to play all that awesome slow jazz and blues for your dancing pleasures at Slowdown!

DJ Kenneth Gosnold playing at Slowdown Weekend 2018

Originally from Adelaide and now living in Perth, Kenneth Gosnold learned to DJ in Adelaide where he fell in love with blues and swing dancing as well as DJing for dancers.

When it comes to DJing music, he is particularly a fan of the Icelandic style of þetta reddast. When not DJing, Kenneth likes to forage for new music in bins, and grumble about people not liking Glen Miller.
